Coronary Care Units

Programs staffed by specially trained nursing personnel that make monitoring and specialized support and treatment equipment available to patients who, because of heart seizure, open heart surgery or other life-threatening conditions, require intensified, comprehensive observation and care. Special units may be available for myocardial infarction, pulmonary care and heart transplants.

Neonatal Intensive Care

Programs that make lifesaving techniques and equipment available to premature and/or critically ill infants who require continuous observation and, in many cases, intensive therapeutic intervention by trained medical staff. Neonatal intensive care is provided in special units or distinct parts of health care facilities that are designed for this purpose.

Neurological Intensive Care

Programs that make lifesaving techniques and equipment available to patients suffering from head trauma, neurovascular disorders, spinal cord injuries, brain tumors or other problems affecting the neurological system and who require continuous observation and, in many cases, intensive therapeutic intervention by trained medical staff. Neurological intensive care is provided in special units or distinct parts of health care facilities designed for this purpose.
