To help prepare for the big day, Bethesda Center for Women and Children offers a variety of prenatal classes and tours. Learn what to expect during labor and delivery, and tips to help get through it. Plus, receive guidance directly from experts about infant feeding, nutrition, baby care, breastfeeding and parenting. The Bethesda Center for Women and Children has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that provides the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborns.

Baby Care Basics: Newborn Care and Comfort ($10)
Although babies do not come with an instruction manual, we can share some helpful information about caring for your newborn! The Baby Care Basics class covers a variety of topics such as diapering, feeding, bathing and soothing baby. Parents will feel more confident and ready to take home their newest family member.
Breastfeeding: Health Benefits for Mom and Baby (FREE)
Taught by a certified lactation professional, this class will help parents make informed decisions about feeding their baby. This class covers the health benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, comfort latch and positioning techniques and receive guidance on using a breast pump. In addition, parents can learn about resources for support and assistance, strategies for working moms and other tips for success. Both parents are encouraged to attend.
Childbirth: Preparing for your Birth Experience - 2-Week Series ($50)
During this two week course, moms and dads will learn about the physical and emotional changes associated with pregnancy and birth. The class will cover the birth experience, including pain control and comfort techniques, medical interventions and post birth care. In addition, learn strategies to help you plan for and navigate through your birth experience.
Childbirth Express: A Day Full of Fun & Learning ($50)
This one-day class offers information about childbirth in one convenient day. Both parents will learn about birth, comfort techniques, pain control options and medical interventions as well as post birth care. Class includes breaks and time for lunch. You can bring your own lunch, or purchase it in the hospital dining room.
Welcome New Baby! ($10)
Becoming a big brother or big sister is a big deal! So is being a cousin, or any other young relative when there is a new baby in the family. This informative and fun class is designed especially for children ages 2 to 6 (older children are also welcome). Each child will decorate a onesie for their little brother or sister as they learn about their new role and the baby joining your family. Class ends with a birthday cupcake to celebrate the upcoming big day. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Cost is for one child. Additional siblings from the same family may attend for $5 each. Space is limited so sign up early.
Safe Baby: Prepare, Prevent & Respond ($10)
The Safe Baby class is designed for new and expectant parents, as well as others who care for babies to increase awareness of safe practices and what to do in the event of an emergency. Topics include safe sleep and injury prevention from birth through 12 months of age. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to practice proper CPR techniques with the guidance of an experienced instructor.

Description
Provides the highest level of neonatal care available in the Level III NICU. A neonatologist (a pediatrician specializing in the care of sick newborns), is in the unit 24 hours a day; specialized equipment includes ventilators designed for immature lungs, and incubators to help support the tiniest patients. The registered nurses in the NICU have completed special certification for caring for premature and seriously ill infants. The NICU team also includes specially trained respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists and radiology technicians to help babies in the NICU get the best start possible.
