Description

Promotes awareness of assistive technology, services and devices through information and training. PAAT assists individuals in their relationships with programs, projects and facilities funded under the Rehabilitation Act, as amended, the Individual with Disabilities Education Act, the Developmental Disabilities Act and other legislation by providing investigation, negotiation and litigation.

    Description

    Assists persons with a disability who are interested in applying for and receiving services from rehabilitation programs, projects or facilities funded under the Rehabilitation Act. Helps individuals understand and deal effectively with programs established to provide these services, such as Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Division of Blind Services and Centers for Independent Living. Provides technical assistance or legal representation to consumers who have expressed their due process rights in having agency decisions regarding provision of services.

      Description

      Assists persons who have a severe and chronic mental or physical impairment that begins before the age of 22. The impairment must substantially limit the person's abilities in three or more life activities such as self-care, language, learning, mobility, self-direction, independent living, and/or economic self-sufficiency. Helps persons of all ages and their families to obtain the available services and supports.

        Description

        Protects the statutory and constitutional rights of persons diagnosed as having significant mental illness and who are in treatment facilities and/or residential programs, or people who have a problem that arose within 90 days of discharge from a residential facility. Also authorized to investigate incidents of abuse and neglect of persons with mental illness and to pursue administrative, legal and other remedies to ensure their protection.
