Affordable home repair and home preservation for low-income homeowners in Indian River County through the Habitat broader Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

Description

Whether living on a fixed income or earning an income that falls within 30 to 80% of the area median income, the cost of needed home repairs can be a great cost burden. At least 80 families are served annually through this Program. Services provided are: 1. Affordable critical repairs might include installing hot water heaters, roofs, air conditioner repair or replacement, plumbing, electrical, or completing bathroom remodels to improve accessibility. 2. Affordable home preservation or minor repairs might include exterior paint, pressure cleaning, motion lights for safety, exterior doors, mulch/planting, or exterior wood repair. 3. Collaboration with other social service organizations to leverage assistance for low-income, elderly and veteran or military status families. 4. Upholding the principle of a hand up not a hand out by agreeing upon and securing affordable repayment.

Eligibility

1. Must own a home within Indian River County. 2. Household income must be within income eligibility guidelines (see chart). Household income will be determined by assessing income for all members. 3. Home must demonstrate needs for repairs. 4. Home must be owner-occupied and serve as the primary residence of applicant. 5. Homeowner has resided in the home for at least twelve (12) months. 6. Homeowner must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Legal Resident. 7. Owners of multiple real estate properties are not eligible. 8. Home may be single-family residences. Condominiums, manufactured homes or trailer do not qualify. 9. Homeowners and/or household members must be willing to partner with Indian River Habitat for Humanity. 10. Homeowners must be willing and able to financially partner with Habitat towards repayment.

    Description

    The "American Dream" of home ownership can become a reality for families in need through the work of Indian River Habitat for Humanity. In addition to monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, also known as sweat equity, into building their home and the homes of others. Prospective home buyers must have a need for simple, decent affordable housing, the ability to pay for and maintain a house, the desire to partner with Habitat by showing a willingness to complete 300-500 Sweat Equity hours, working on their own house as well as on other Habitat projects, and the willingness to complete all mandatory classes, including financial management training, provided to help equip home buyers for home ownership.

    Eligibility

    Homeowner Applicants must have a need, the ability to pay and the willingness to partner. They must also meet the following requirements: - Legal resident of the United States - Current on any non-medical debt - Lived and worked in Indian River County for at least one year - Meet income based on the income guidelines - Contribute hundreds of hours of sweat equity - No prior homeownership in the past three years.     Individual or family must be willing to partner, ultimately repaying an affordable mortgage that will not exceed 30% of the household's income.

      Description

      Receives donations of gently used household goods, furniture, electronics, building materials and supplies. Donated goods are sold to the public; revenue generated helps to build one out of every three Habitat homes in Indian River County.
