Description:
Provides trained, volunteer tutors to instruct adults one-on-one. Instruction in basic reading and writing. Also provides tutors for English to speakers of other languages. One-on-one lessons are free, private, and confidential. They are held in a public facility (generally the library) and lessons can be conducted on any day of the week during the mornings, afternoons, or evenings. Lessons are generally an hour to an hour and a half once or twice a week. Also provide workplace literacy for employers.
Conversational English classes are available for ESL Students.
The Sebastian office of Literacy Services is located in the North Indian River County Library, Sebastian Boulevard, Sebastian. The Fellsmere office is located at 56 N, Broadway Street.
Volunteer tutors are always needed and no experience is necessary. Persons interested attend a day workshop to learn how to use materials.

Adults 16 or older Indian River County resident not currently enrolled in school for tutoring.

Intake Procedure
Interested students come to the office to fill out and intake form. Interested tutors join one of the monthly new tutor trainings.
