Description:
The Tax Collector is charged with the responsibility of collecting and disbursing large sums of money among many governmental agencies.
1. The Tax collector collects the ad Valorem and non-ad valorem property tax roll.
2. Process all motor vehicle and mobile home titles and registrations, vessel title and registrations.
3. Drivers licenses and road tests at the main office on Willoughby. All road rests are by appointment only.
4. Hunting and fishing licenses.
5. Collection and billing of business tax receipts, tourist tax collection and billing.
6. EMS billing and collection for Martin County.
7. Special assessments, billing and issuing pet licenses with proof of current rabies vaccinations.
8. Palm City office does TSA and Twic cards
9. The Palm City location only, performs certified copies of Florida Birth Certificates.
10. Process Concealed Weapons applications at the Main office and Hobe Sound office. (They do the Fingerprinting, application, and photo. Walk in only.)
The Martin County Tax Collector's office acts as an agent of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Department of Revenue, The Florida Fish and Wildlife conservation commission, Department of Health, and the Department of Environment Protection. Funded through commissions and fees earned on all collections. All commissions earned in excess of the approved budget are returned to the various taxing authorities.
