Description:
The Arc's Adult Services include the Community Living program as well as a variety of Employment Services for adults 18 years of age and over with developmental disabilities.
The Career Transition Program helps participants to develop a wide variety of life skills that are necessary in the workplace and in the greater community. Adults with developmental disabilities are assisted on their path to independence and inclusion through lessons that are designed to help them manage skills related to daily living, personal/social involvement and occupational activities.
The Artisan Program enables clients to utilize their creative talents to produce unique pieces of art that they then have the opportunity to display and sell at art or craft shows and at green markets. Creations include mosaics; drawings and paintings; decorated flower pots; greeting cards and more. The artists learn how to market their artwork, how to speak to customers, how to understand currency and how to handle small financial transactions, and as a result have the opportunity to earn a little extra income.
Employment services, including VR and supported employment, are provided for individuals who are seeking employment, as well as ongoing support once they are hired. The agency's employment specialist is active in the Palm Beach County community, partnering with businesses of all types to learn about or even help to create positions that can be filled by individuals with developmental disabilities. At the same time, the employment specialist works with clients to ascertain their interests and skills. When a position is available that matches the individual's abilities and desires, a connection is made.
The Adult Leisure Day Program offers life skills training, self advocacy, social and community inclusion opportunities. The program offers an alternative for adults on the waiting list for APD Medicaid Waiver Services or who are not seeking employment. Activities include sports, crafts, food preparation and light cooking, self advocacy and community-based life skills training.
The Recreation Department offers a wide variety of leisure activities for children, teens and adults with special needs. All of the programs offer age-appropriate activities and instruction, which include drama and music, a variety of sports, field trips and other engaging activities.
TGIF is an evening social club for adults aged 18 and older, scheduled Friday evenings and some Saturdays. This program offers a wide variety of fun, themed activities and community based outings.
The Arc operates four group homes located in typical residential communities throughout Palm Beach County. These houses are designed to help adults over the age of 18 acquire the skills necessary to achieve their highest level of independence. Staffing is provided 24 hours a day to provide rehabilitation services and training activities to help residents acquire, maintain or improve upon skills related to daily living to enable individuals to reside in the community.
