Description:
Provides assistance to residents to improve quality of life through information, resources, and services. Assists county residents in accordance with their mission statement.
Community Services has four divisions: Housing, Human Services, and Veterans. Social services assists with access to services at the federal, state, and local levels.
Social Services is the lead entity for the Treasure Coast Community Action agency which administers the Community Service Block Grant. Programs which focus on services that will have a major impact on the causes of poverty in the community. Priority is given to those individuals or programs that assist low-income participants in activities such as securing employment, attaining education, making better use of income, obtaining adequate housing and emergency assistance, achieving self-sufficiency and greater community involvement, and participating in other related programs.
Veteran Services assist St. Lucie County veterans and their families with applications for VA benefits under Federal and State laws. The office provides no-cost transportation for disabled and disadvantaged veterans to the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center so they may receive medical care.
The Housing Division administers the State Housing Initiative Partnership SHIP program, the HOME Investment Partnership Program, the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Initiative CDBG DRI and Small Cities Programs and Neighborhood Stabilization. Depending on eligibility criteria, grants allow for a variety of services, including repair of health and safety issues for homeowners, down payment assistance for home purchase, and others.

Minor Auto Repair Program
Description
Provides income eligible households assistance with small repairs such as batteries, tires, water hoses, brakes, and engine belts. Repairs must be needed to maintain employment, secondary seduction/training or to manage ongoing health care with tow or more weekly appointments. Routine medical appoints are not eligible. Proof of ownership and insurance required. Assistance is based on available funding. Maximum assistance is $1000.

Description
Provides income eligible households assistance with summer camp scholarships. Preference will be given to household who are working or currently enrolled in school. Eligible households must meet requirements.

Christmas Kids of St. Lucie County
Description
This program, sponsored by WPSL, provides funds for the purchase of new toys for children ages 12 and under only. Those wishing to receive toys for their children can apply to St. Lucie County Community Services. Please call for volunteer opportunities. This program works with other similar ones in the community and doesn't allow for duplication across programs. Applicants who have applied for other program should not apply here. Applications accepted in November. The office can be contacted for dates of application. Distribution date and location to be determined. Provides financial assistance for students who lost their financial aid due to low completion rate or GPA and have 10 classes or less to graduate or reinstate their financial aid.
