Description
The Extra Help program is a statewide partnership between The Department of Elder Affairs'(DOEA) SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) and The Social Security Administration (SSA) to help low-income seniors with the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan also known as Medicare Part D. The Extra Help program, provides financial assistance to low-income beneficiaries enrolled in Part D who meet income and asset requirements. Beneficiaries may be able to get extra help to pay for the premiums, annual deductible, and co-payments related to the Medicare Prescription Drug Program - an average of $2,100 in extra help.. SHINE counselors will provide hands-on assistance to applicants requesting help. ELIGIBILITY: 1. You have Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and/or Medicare Part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance), and 2. You live in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia, and 3. Your savings, investments, and real estate (other than your home) are not worth more than $13,640, if you are single, or $27,250 if you are married and living with your spouse. If you have more than those amounts, you still may be eligible for this extra help. To find out, contact a SHINE counselor.
