Description:
The Community Inclusion Program serves as the gateway to The Arc of Palm Beach County, helping to acquaint new families with all that the agency has to offer. The program also provides a variety of advocacy, direct support and referral services for families with children of any age with developmental disabilities.
All families that are interested in receiving services from any of The Arc of Palm Beach County's many programs can be connected with the programs that will best meet their needs, as well as the support groups and other services that are provided under the Family Support Services umbrella. Once they have been acquainted with the agency and learned about which options are appropriate for their loved one and their family, they may choose to take advantage of as many or as few choices as they wish.
Respite Program
Caring for a family member with developmental disabilities is an around-the-clock job that can have emotional and physical repercussions for the entire family. Respite is short-term care that helps a family of a disabled child or adult to take a break from the stress of their daily routine. The Arc's Respite Program is designed not only to protect the caregiver's health and well-being, but also to prevent out-of-home placement and reduce the risk of abuse or neglect.
Through The Arc's Respite Program, trained workers provide assistance that allows parents the opportunity to balance their lives while decreasing stress and recharging. All Respite Program staff members have extensive experience working with people with developmental disabilities, and receive ongoing training on relevant issues and new procedures. Each respite worker is required to pass rigorous pre-employment background screenings.
The Arc is pleased to be able to offer two options for respite care, in-home and center-based. Both offer the services of staff members who have extensive experience working with people with developmental disabilities. All respite workers must meet rigorous pre-employment criteria and pass federal background screenings. In addition to the experience they already have, respite workers receive regular trainings on a variety of issues related to the services they provide.
Upon acceptance into the program, interviews are scheduled with potential workers so that families are guaranteed that the person coming into their home is someone with whom they are comfortable.
Center-based respite care is offered each Saturday from 9 am- 3 pm.
