Local Automobile Transportation
Programs that transport passengers from a prearranged pick-up point to an airport, train station or other point of departure or from an airport, train station or other point of arrival to their final destination (which may be a residence or a hotel) via an automobile, van or other shuttle vehicle. Also included are courtesy shuttles operated by hotels and car rental agencies.
Organizations that provide rental cars, vans or other vehicles, including vehicles that are equipped with wheelchair lifts or are otherwise modified to accommodate drivers or passengers with disabilities, for individuals who need a temporary means of transportation.
Programs that make arrangements for people to travel together in private automobiles and/or vans during busy commuting hours or which provide a central telephone number for people to use to identify others who are commuting to and from the same general area with whom they might share. Vehicle options include vanpools and carpools. Vanpools may be publicly or employer operated or organized by an individual who owns or leases a van; the drivers are generally participating as commuters themselves, so are not paid.
