Description

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities works in partnership with local communities to ensure the safety, well-being and self-sufficiency for persons with developmental disabilities throughout Florida. The agency provides assistance to identify the needs of people with developmental disabilities and funding to purchase supports and services. The developmental disabilities identified in Florida law are: Spina Bifida - Cystica or Myelomeningocele Cerebral Palsy, Prader-Willi, Down Syndrome, Severe forms of Autism, Phelan-McDermid and Intellectual Disability - Full Scale IQ of 70 or below. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities provides support coordinators to assist both children and adults in identifying and securing the supports and services they need to live, work and play in places they choose.

            The Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver offers supports and services to assist individuals with developmental disabilities ages 3 and over to live in their community. Services are provided based on individual need. If eligible some of these services may include: adult day training; companion services; consumable medical supplies; dietitian services; personal care; occupational therapy; physical therapy; respite care; nursing services; and support coordination.
